Where to begin? Excellent sporting facilities, fine restaurants & bars, theme parks, historic sites, fortified towns, memorials & cemeteries, arts & crafts, festivals, markets, 110km of sandy beaches and even a chocolate factory in Beussent! An information pack is provided in your apartment and we’re always on hand to recommend the best restaurants, golf courses, places to visit…
Theme parks: choose from the theme/amusement/water/activity parks for a great day out with the family…
- Aqualud at Le Touquet: indoor & outdoor water-based activity centre
- Bagatelle at Berck: amusement park with over 40 attractions
- Dennlys Park near Fruges: old-fashioned theme park – great for kids
- Parc Astérix just south of Lille: rides based on the Asterix cartoon characters.
Horse riding: if you fancy learning to ride a horse, the area has many riding centres, as well as miles of riding tracks. Experienced riders can book a day’s excursion to explore the woodlands or the beaches.
Golf: you will find courses at Le Touquet (11 miles), Hardelot (9 miles), Nampont (14 miles), Belle Dune (21 miles), Wimereux (21 miles), Saint Omer (29 miles), Arras (53 miles), Dunkerque (62 miles) and Ruminghem (30 miles).
Cycling: new cycle routes have been designated throughout the region – the official information noticeboards and signposts will show you the way!
Tennis: tennis centres can be found in Montreuil and Le Touquet. Beussent has a public court (a five-minute walk away).
Go-karts: who’s going to be first off the grid? Get “pole position” on all the different tracks in the area.
Kite flying: visit the kite workshop in Hardelot. If you just want to go fly a kite, choose one of many beaches along the Cote d’Opale coastline (over 100km of sandy beaches)! A sight not to be missed is the International Kite Festival in Berck (mid-April) which also has excellent stalls and entertainments – definitely worth the trip.
Sand yachting: the sand yachting schools all along the coast cater for individuals, groups and families.
Windsurfing: the many windsurfing schools run courses for everyone – beginners and advanced windsurfers alike. Board rental is also possible.
Canoes & kayaks: the nearest canoe & kayak centre is a 12-minute drive away in Montreuil.
Fishing: if you fancy fishing for your supper, fishing lakes with picnic areas are just a one-minute drive away from Clubhouse Gîtes! Half-day or full-day permits are available – or if you pick up a fishing permit from a designated shop, you can fish in the local rivers as well.
